Drainage Solution Installation Services in Des Plaines, IL

At Amliv Land Designs, drainage solutions installation stops water from destroying your yard and threatening your foundation. You know the problems – that spot that stays soggy for days after rain, the water pooling against your house, the erosion gullies forming on slopes. Fixing drainage isn’t complicated in theory, but actually installing systems that work takes knowing what you’re doing.

Our drainage solution installation services in Des Plaines build the systems that solve water problems. We install French drains that intercept water underground, regrade yards so water flows away from buildings, dig swales that channel surface runoff, and put in catch basins where water needs collecting. Whether it’s one problem spot or your entire property, proper installation means water finally moves where it should instead of pooling and causing damage.

French Drain Installation

French Drain Installation

French drains catch water that’s moving through your soil, not over the top. We dig trenches with a slight slope (at least 1%), line them with fabric so dirt doesn’t clog everything up, dump in graded gravel, lay perforated pipe at the bottom, and wrap it all up. How deep and wide we dig depends on how much water we’re dealing with and where it’s coming from. French drains only work if they slope toward somewhere the water can actually go – otherwise you’ve just built an expensive underground swimming pool.

Yard Grading & Regrading

Most drainage problems come down to grade being wrong. We move dirt around to create slopes that push water away from your house (usually at least 2%), get rid of low spots where water sits, and make sure everything drains toward somewhere appropriate. Grading usually means tearing up and replacing grass, moving some plants around, and adjusting garden beds. The whole point is getting water to flow off your property or into drainage systems instead of just sitting there.

Catch Basin & Drain Installation

Catch basins grab surface water at low spots or problem areas. We dig out space for the basin, set it level with the right pitch toward where water exits, hook up pipes to carry water away, pack dirt back around it, and put a grate on top. Catch basins work great for patios, low spots in driveways, or anywhere water pools but won’t drain on its own. The basin is just a box – what matters is getting the height right and making sure the outlet pipe actually takes water somewhere useful.

Swale & Channel Construction

Swales are shallow grass-covered ditches that move surface water. We dig them out to the right width and depth, grade them so water keeps moving (usually 1-2% slope), shape the sides so you can still mow them, and seed or sod the whole thing. Swales handle bigger volumes of surface water than French drains and work well for moving water across your yard or catching runoff from uphill. They need enough slope to move water but not so much they wash out. When done right, they look like part of the landscape instead of drainage ditches.

Downspout Drainage Installation

Your roof dumps insane amounts of water in tiny areas. We bury pipes from your downspouts, dig trenches and run solid pipe to where water can discharge safely, hook downspouts into buried inlets or pop-up drains, and get water far enough from your foundation that it’s not a problem. These lines can connect to French drains, dump into swales, or just discharge somewhere appropriate on the surface. The main thing is getting roof water away from your foundation instead of letting it pour out right next to your house.

Retaining Wall Drainage Installation

Retaining walls fall apart without drainage behind them. We pack drainage rock directly behind the wall, put perforated pipe at the bottom wrapped in fabric, run pipes out the ends or through the wall, and backfill with the right materials. Without this drainage, water pressure builds up behind the wall and eventually pushes it over or cracks it. This drainage has to go in while we’re building the retaining wall – you can’t really fix it properly afterwards.

Sump Pump & Discharge Line Installation

Sometimes you need a pump to get water out. We install sump pump systems in basements or crawl spaces, run discharge pipes to safe locations away from your house, bury the pipes below frost line where they cross your yard, and put in check valves so water doesn’t flow backwards. Sump discharge needs to dump water at least 10-20 feet from your foundation and can’t just pour out where it’ll flow back toward the house. We also set up backup battery systems for pumps that need to keep working when the power’s out.

Erosion Control Installation

Moving water washes away dirt. We put down riprap or stone where water flows fast, lay erosion fabric on slopes, build small dams or breaks to slow water down, and plant stuff that holds soil in place. Erosion control goes with drainage work – you’re moving water but doing it without losing half your yard. This means using materials that can actually handle the amount and speed of water you’re dealing with.

Why Choose Amliv Land Designs For Drainage Solutions Installation

We Install Systems That Actually Fix Problems, Not Band-Aids

Some drainage “fixes” just move water to a different problem spot or only work until the next heavy rain. We install complete systems that address the root cause – intercepting water at the source, moving it with proper grade and capacity, and discharging it where it won’t create new issues. You get a solution that actually works long-term, not temporary relief.

We Size And Grade Everything Correctly

Undersized pipes back up, improper slopes cause standing water, and shallow trenches don’t intercept subsurface flow. We calculate drainage capacity based on actual rainfall and property conditions, maintain proper grades throughout the system, and size components for peak flow rather than average conditions. The difference between drainage that works and drainage that fails usually comes down to doing the math and following through with proper installation.

We Install With Longevity In Mind

Drainage systems buried underground need to last decades. We use proper aggregates that won’t compact and lose permeability, wrap systems in fabric that filters without cloging, compact backfill so trenches don’t sink and create new low spots, and use quality materials designed for underground burial. Cheap installations fail within years – proper installation means systems that keep working.

We Connect Systems To Appropriate Discharge Points

A drainage system is only as good as where it sends the water. We identify legal and practical discharge locations, verify we’re not creating problems for neighbors or violating codes, and design discharge points that handle peak flow without erosion. Some properties need multiple discharge points, some can consolidate everything. We figure out what works for your specific situation rather than just running pipe to the property line and calling it done.
